Doing a Heck of a Job Olmerty!

In a scene reminiscent of New Orleans post Hurricane Katrina, untold human suffering is developing in Gaza and Southern Lebanon. This carnage comes courtesy of the Israeli military in retaliation for kidnappings of its soldiers. Like the Gulf Coast millions are without power and in personal peril.

The Prime Minister of the fledgling Lebanese democracy pleaded with U.S. President George Bush for help in stopping the Israeli revenge machine. Prime Minister Siniora issued a statement:

"President Bush affirmed his readiness to put pressure on Israel to limit the damage to Lebanon as a result of the current military action, and to spare civilians from harm"

Is the Lebanese Prime Minister familiar with the Bush readiness record and its inability to take timely action to protect its own citizens, much less people who voted in or support terrorists? Bush pulled a Pontious Pilate and washed his hands of this whole mess as it escalated. His own spokesman said Bush had not had any phone conversations with Middle Eastern leaders at the situation festered.

If Bush does make the call to Israeli Prime Minister, my guess is he will say “You’re doing a heckuva job Olmerty!” As with Katrina on Bush’s return trip from the G8, the people can expect a flyover, wing dip and wave. The poor innocents will miss his magnanimous gesture as they suffer in the oppressive heat indoors. It is too unsafe to go outside. How will they feel knowing they missed the leader of the free world’s flyover? Or was the War President rubbing his hands in glee?
