Dear President Bush,
In the Red State of Arizona, state and local authorities have found a way to round up those banditos. It appears too many responded to Frito Lay’s call for cheap labor.
The Maricopa County Sheriff is sending out a 100 man posse of volunteers and Sheriff’s Deputies to scour the Phoenix area for illegal immigrants. By the weekend the posse will be on the move. What happens if they find offenders of the federal immigration law? They go right to the pokey!
"We're going to arrest any illegal who violates this new law," said the Sherriff. "I'm not going to turn these people over to federal authorities so they can have a free ride back to Mexico."
"I'll give them a free ride into the county jail." Under the law - as interpreted by the Maricopa County attorney - illegal immigrants can be arrested and prosecuted for conspiracy to smuggle themselves into the country. The law's authors have said they intended it to be used to prosecute smugglers, not the immigrants being smuggled.
Just yesterday I wrote to you about the white man’s treatment of Native Americans. We invaded their country. One might find the “Mexican invasion” turnabout fair play. That the battle is in the same neck of the words makes for an interesting historical footnote.
Either way, the fact that each person is a real human being frequently is left by the wayside. That leaders pit the common folk against each other is a centuries old ploy. It diverts them from their leader sponsored hosing, usually accomplished when those at the top take the finer things or abscond with the money to purchase them.
As the country does pretty much everything with prayer in mind I have a few questions:
1. Will the posse say a prayer for success before going bandito hunting?
2. Will the illegal immigrants ask God to shield them and keep them from prison?
3. Will leaders mobilizing the division thank God for the bounty they steal while the people are “occupied”?
As you pray a lot, you likely have some thoughts on the matter. Write me back, I’d like to hear them.
