Just after the first of the year, I wrote the President with the following quiz
In whhich of the following circumstances did President Bush not share this message. “This act will not stop the violence in Iraq”?
1. The capture of Saddam Hussein
2. The killing of al-Zarqawi
3. The execution of Saddam Hussein
4. The delivery of the first Iraq Study Group Report
5. The New Way Forward in Iraq which includes a surge of over 20,000 troops
The correct answer is 4. For a historical context, check out President Bush’s 2004 speech to the Army War College. In that speech he said "And by removing a source of terrorist violence and instability in the Middle East, we also make our own country more secure. "
However, AP news reports on the British doctor terror cell indicate #2, the killing of al-Zarqawi made the U.S. less safe. "Al-Qaida in Iraq is believed to have become better organized since Abu Ayyub al-Masri, an Egyptian, took it over from Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the Jordanian who was killed by coalition forces a year ago. Iraqi officials also have said the terrorist group is now delegating more authority to sympathetic cells in other countries."
Anyone reading the news could be concerned our President's heavy handedness in the Middle East is growing the terrorist threat to the United States, especially our working with fundamentalist Sunni groups in Iraq. That's how we grew Osama bin Laden in the 1980's. Who is Bush fertilizing in his Little Shop of Horrors? Oh, and the projected doctor shortage should grow worse as America slows down its stealing of trained physicians from around the world...
