It's America's Turn According to Gorbachev

Turnabout is fair play in the eyes of one Russian leader. After hearing then President Ronald Reagan say "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall", Mikhail Gorbachev has some advice for the United States. Quit playing empire builder.

Meanwhile this story plays out in the British news, not on American media. The AP wire is full of pieces on Iran's intransigence over its nuclear energy program, the President of Iran's vision of a destroyed Israel, and the U.S. Defense Department chief warning two democracies not to clash like last summer's Israel/Lebanon altercation. This time it's Turkey and Iraq. That's an awful lot of democratic conflict despite President Bush's assertions "democracies don't war."

So what did the ex Soviet Union leader have to say? In a BBC interview, Mr Gorbachev said that the Russians were ready to be constructive, but America was trying to squeeze them out of global diplomacy. Did he read the Project for the New American Century report because that's exactly what it calls for, U.S. worldwide dominance? Another PNAC worshipper was just appointed Chief of the World Bank.

While Mikhail Gorbachev is widely ignored by the U.S. media, where and when will he pull a Ronnie? Will he stand on the West Bank wall and call on President Bush and Prime Minister Olmert to tear down this wall? Or will it be between the U.S. and Mexico?
