Freedom to Offend

Democratic House member Pete Lantos of California took a few shots at leaders of "old Europe" just weeks after Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney did likewise. Lantos, the Chair of the House Foreign Affairs Committee called a former German Chancellor a "political prostitute". As for former French President, Lantos said Jacques Chirac "should go down to the Normandy beaches. He should see those endless rows of white marble crosses and stars of David representing young Americans who gave their lives for the freedom of France."

In regard to German leader Gerhard Schroeder, the obnoxious Democrat said "I referred to him as a political prostitute, now that he's taking big checks from (Russian President Vladimir) Putin. But the sex workers in my district objected, so I will no longer use that phrase."

Just as the creepy audience hooted and hollered after Ann Coulter called John Edwards a faggot, Lantos' followers laughed and applauded. What is wrong with people today that we cannot disagree in a civil manner? Why are elected leaders seemingly incapable of working to find common ground with people over important issues? What's up with Tom Lantos' tricks? Which John's financed Tom (like Vladmir Putin to Schoeder) to the tune of $6.4 million over his political career?
