Dear President Bush,
News reports suggest the White House is taking an increasingly proactive role in heading off the controversy over the alleged killing of civilians in Haditha by U.S. soldiers. Since when is taking action 7 months after the event being “proactive”? I thought such an approach meant acting ahead of time, not afterwards.
Any student of military history is well aware that war leads to incidents like what happened in Haditha. Whether ordered by their superiors or not, innocent civilians are purposefully gunned down during war. Korea had its’ No Gun Ri and Vietnam My Lai. Had the White House wanted to be proactive in preventing Haditha’s, it would not have gone to war. Think about that next time you pretend your administration is being proactive.
