Dear President Bush,
Someone may wish to hold a mirror up to you and Sec. of Defense Donald Rumsfeld. Your administration’s actions belie its rhetoric. Just days ago Donald accused the Chinese of being secretive about their military buildup. Secrecy about military strategy is a longtime U.S. practice.
He also lit into other countries for their sponsorship of terror while ignoring the United States backsliding in the treatment of prisoners. The Baltimore Sun concluded the new Army Field Manual will be released without a key provision required by the Geneva Conventions banning “humiliating and degrading treatment”.
It is more “do as I say, not as I do” which the world has come to expect from your administration. That the ideal of America is “humiliated and degraded” makes it even more disappointing. Might state sponsor of terror not apply to us? Have we become the very thing we hate?
