Gov. Perry to Propose Lottery Privatization

Forget the state already contracts out the running of the state’s lottery to private company GTech. The Texas Governor now wants to factor future lottery proceeds to generate funds today. With the state’s $14 billion surplus, why the need for billions more in cash today?

This is an odd platform for the Governor’s State of Texas address. Either Rick believes two layers of privatization are better than one level of government operation or his donor friends aren’t making enough profit off the first and need a long term shot of state sponsored revenue.

One might think running the Texas lottery while providing call centers for select Texas automated government benefits programs might be enough for GTech. It appears not.
