The White House just issued its budget requests for the Afghanistan & Iraq wars for the next three years, beginning in 2007. The article failed to produce the total so that is the aim of this piece.

Total for both conflicts through 2006 equals $406.7 billion. We add the President’s proposed budget to this to estimate the eight year tab.
2007 $170 billion
2008 $145 billion
2009 $ 50 billion
Should spending go as budgeted the wars will cost the U.S. $771.7 billion for our eight year involvement in those two theaters. This concerns me especially in light of the White House's top budget guru's saying there is "very little real accountability" in U.S. government...
