Senator Ron Wyden Asks Dump Question during Health Reform Hearing

Senate Finance Committee Chair Max Baucus (D-MT) ruled out single payer as an option for health care reform, but he did leave in taxing health insurance benefits. At roughly the 35 minute mark, Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR) asked about shifting the employer's tax free health insurance status to the employee.

Once employers lose the deduction, health insurance will shift to the individual with the tax benefit. The U.S. Chamber badly wants to unburden its members of that pesky health insurance. Ron Wyden is happy to accommodate. Max's final solution remains to be seen.
