The Canadian man snatched in a U.S. airport in 2002 and shipped to Syria for a year of torture received confirmation that the United States still considers him a terror suspect. This comes after the nation of Canada publicly apologized to Mr. Arar for their role in his abduction. CNN had this to say about the case:
We have an update for you on the case of Maher Arar. He's a Canadian citizen on the U.S. terror watch list. In 2002, he was taken into custody at Kennedy Airport in New York by U.S. officials and sent to Syria for interrogation, where he says he was tortured. Now the Justice and Homeland Security Departments say they've re-examined Arar's case and intend to keep him on the terror watch list.
Is it an error on Arar or did the U.S. actually create a terrorist based on its inhumane treatment of the Canadian citizen? Only Justice Chief Alberto Gonzales knows for sure and as usual, he’s talking but not answering questions…
