Gulf of Mexico Catastrophes

Obama's Oil Spew or Bush's Katrina?

“I am confident that we’re going to be able to leave the Gulf Coast in better shape than it was before.’And tonight I also offer this pledge of the American people. ... we will do what it takes. We will stay as long as it takes to help citizens rebuild their communities and their lives. Every time, the people of this land have come back from fire, flood, and storm to build anew -- and to build better than what we had before.

Obama delivered the first sentence, Bush spoke the rest. Both charged investigations which came up short on promises. Obama's Ken Salazar bailed on his charge to investigate the Deepwater Horizon incident. Bush's Frances Townsend omitted the hospital with the highest patient death toll and failed to clarify responsibility for patient evacuations from dead health care facilities.

Update 10-5-15:  Obama's "Just Us" Department settled with BP for $20 billion as a final settlement for environmental damages.  This occurred prior to a major hurricane pushing submerged BP oil miles inland.  Best set most of that money aside for that eventuality.
