An Election Tale of Two Universities

It was the best of young voters, it was the worst of young voters. At least, two Virginia communities felt that way. Montgomery County houses Virginia Tech. Republican leaders sent intimidating letters to students discouraging voter registration in their county.

Liberty University is in Lynchburg, over two hours from Blacksburg. Liberty's President Jerry Falwell Jr. conducted a massive student voter registration drive, even cancelling classes on election day for students to vote. Both efforts were led by Republican supporters. Why the difference?

It was the best of political parties, it was the worst of political parties. After eight years of George W. Bush, the pendulum clearly swung toward the worst.
