Obama's Summer 2006 & Now

One might gain insight from how a leader responds to similar events. In light of Israel's current pummeling of Gaza, how did Barack Obama react to the Jewish State's blitz of Lebanon in July 2006?

Research shows Obama making a major speech on religion in late June of that year. He said Democrats needed to compete for support from evangelicals and other church goers. I found two quotes on his stand the summer of 2006.

"I don't think there is any nation that would not have reacted the way Israel did after two soldiers had been snatched. I support Israel's response to take some action in protecting themselves." (August 22, 2006)

"I don't fault Israel for wanting to rid their border with Lebanon from those Katyusha missiles that can fire in and harm Israeli citizens, so I think that any cease fire would have to be premised on the removal of those missiles." (July 2006)

That sounds remarkably Bush like. Two years later he weighed in again on Lebanon. Lebanese bloggers were not impressed. Israel regularly commits many of the same sins Senator Obama identified. Ironically, Barack mentioned "corrupt patronage" in his statement. Did Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich emigrate from Lebanon?

Did Barack know George Bush's administration helped plan the Lebanon attack? The Guardian ran a piece on August 14, 2006 with this revelation. The article stated:

The US government was closely involved in planning the Israeli campaign in Lebanon, even before Hizbullah seized two Israeli soldiers in a cross border raids in July.

I expect George W. did likewise with Gaza. Did special Middle East envoy General James Jones help plan the Gaza attack? Funny, he's Barack Obama's National Security Adviser. Change? Hardly.
