Just after Karl Rove dumped his assistant with Jack Abramoff ties, House Speaker Dennis Hastert ponders which staffer to jettison to stem the bleeding from the Mark Foley page scandal.
The problem is the flaming bag of poo is firmly attached to the Speaker's boot. As "Shoeless Karl" doesn’t wear any, this wasn’t a problem. But Dennis first has to extricate the flaming stench of inattention and inaction from his Tony Llamas.
Why does the public buy the delegation of blame from obviously corrupt elected leaders? The Speaker came under fire this summer for unreported land deals near a highway funded by his earmark. The purchaser was a longtime Hastert donor, raising questions as to whether he juiced the deal to help the Speaker? Not too long ago, someone overpaid for Rep. Randy “Duke” Cunningham’s house.
As usual someone small will have to take the fall for the unaccountable big boys.
