Fran Townsend Comments on NCC Chief's Vacation

CNN commenter Frances Fragos Townsend spoke on the vacation of National Counterterrorism Center Chief Michael Leiter. He was off when the Nigerian underwear bomber struck. MSNBC reported:

"The top official in charge of analyzing terror threats did not cut short his ski vacation after the underwear bomber nearly blew up an airliner on Christmas Day, the Daily News has learned. Michael Leiter, director of the National Counterterrorism Center since 2007, decided not to return to his agency's 'bat cave' nerve center in McLean, Va., until several days after Christmas, two U.S. officials said."

Ironically, CNN's Wolf Blitzer asked Fran for her reaction to this fact. Mrs. Townsend, along with most of the Bush White House senior staff, was on vacation when Hurricane Katrina struck. Who can forget President George W. Bush eating cake with Senator John McCain in Arizona, while New Orleans turned into a toxic filled toilet? How about Bush strumming a guitar, while New Orleans drowned? We haven't had that image since Nero fiddled, while Rome burned.

Fran answered Wolf Blitzer's question with another question. "Can you lead an organization remotely?" She added, "there will be a lot of fire on Capital Hill about this." She should know from experience. Fran successfully avoided the flames. Might found Bush e-mails shed light, where darkness exists?

Update: A House committee subpoenaed Tim Geithner's e-mails and phone logs in regard to AIG. Congress didn't use subpoena power to investigate the horrific Bush White House response to Katrina. Frances Townsend's communications remain in the shadows.

Update #2, 1-18-10: Fran Townsend is yet to comment on the 7.0 earthquake that devastated Haiti. Her ex-boss, President George W. Bush stepped forward to raise funds for victims.
