Olmert Scrambles to Put Israeli Nuclear Sampson Back in Bottle

Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert in a Bush-like gaffe implied his country possesses nuclear weapons. The long rumored capability seemed to be confirmed by his comment.

"Iran openly, explicitly and publicly threatens to wipe Israel off the map," Olmert said. "Can you say that this is the same level, when you are aspiring to have nuclear weapons, as America, France, Israel, Russia?"

Why mention Israel with the other nuclear weapon capable states if it doesn’t have them? Given the talk about the “Sampson option” earlier this year, this seems to be a non-event. Just as Sampson sacrificed his own life in taking down the temple, Israel would nuke itself if ever run over by Arab hoards. If they can’t have it, nobody will…
