Israeli Planes Grounded as Middle East Pressure Cooker Builds


Haaretz reported on Israel grounding all its F-16I fighter jets as one plane had undue odors of formaldehyde. Comments #8 and #18 indicated pilots breathe through oxygen masks for most of the flight. The brief time unmasked occurs with the hatch cover open, allowing outside air to reduce the level of contaminants.

If the formaldehyde reason is a ruse, then why would Israel ground all its F-16I fighter jets? Are they doing preventive maintenance in anticipation of long hours of use?
